The Polytechnic of Viseu consists of 6 Organic Units: 5 Higher Schools and Social Action Services.
School of Education of Viseu
The Viseu Higher School of Education, the first to be created in Portugal, is a landmark in the history of teacher education in our country. Its active existence dates back to 1980. However, its solemn inauguration and the beginning of its academic activities take place only on 26 March 1983. The ESEV thus became the first School of a Polytechnic Institute to come into operation in Portugal.
School of Technology and Management of Viseu
The School of Technology and Management of Viseu (ESTGV) is an organic unit of teaching and research. The STGV, as a higher education institution, is a center for the creation, diffusion and transmission of culture, science and technology, articulating its activities in the fields of education, vocational training, research and service delivery to the community. The ESTGV is governed by quality standards that ensure adequate training to the needs of the community in which it operates.
Higher School of Agricultural Sciences of Viseu
Created officially on December 19, 1994 (DL no. 304/94), it is one of the organic units of the Polytechnic of Viseu. ESAV intends to transmit and disseminate knowledge in order to train students with a high level of skills in the areas of agrarian, food and veterinary science; promote applied research and its dissemination, cultural, scientific and technological exchange with similar national and international institutions and the relationship with the business community, in order to contribute to the development of the region and the country.
School of Health of Viseu
The School of Health, resulted from the reconversion of the Nursing School (Ordinance no. 216/2005, of February 24). The Nursing School of Viseu was created by Ordinance No. 228/71, of May 1st, and began its pedagogical and scientific activities at the service of Nursing training in October 1974. Its integration as an Organic Unit of the IPV took place in January 2001. In February 2005, it was converted to the School of Health. Currently, it develops training at the level of Bachelor, Master, Post-graduation and Post-graduation.
School of Technology and Management of Lamego
The School of Technology and Management of Lamego was created by Decree-Law 264/99, of July 14. Its activities began in 2000/2001. ESTGL is characterized by the initial training in scientific fields that can most directly intervene in the activity of the economic-productive and cultural sectors of its preferential area of coverage, constituted by the north of the district of Viseu, in the so-called sub-region of the South Douro. ESTGL currently conducts two-stage courses and intends to develop other training areas equally related to management, social service, administration, tourism, IT and new technologies.
